Wendy Vandersteen

Wendy Vandersteen has a bachelor of science from Queen’s University, a master of science from the University of Manitoba and a Ph.D. from the University of British Columbia (UBC). Since graduating from UBC, she has held positions in academia, government and industry, and enjoys facilitating research and collaboration across these boundaries. Currently manager of research and development at Taplow Ventures Ltd., she actively supports the aquaculture industry while developing a research and development program in pet nutrition for FirstMate. Vandersteen has more than 25 years of research experience, initially focusing on behavior and ecology of fish and evolving into a more in-depth analysis of physiology and the underlying genetic mechanisms controlling growth and behavior. Recently, she has focused on the application of genomics resources in combination with nutritional concepts to support health and performance of fish and pets, with a specific focus on the role of the gut microbiome.
