“Taste of Pet Food’s Future” theme of Petfood Innovation Workshop 2017

The 2017 Petfood Innovation Workshop theme has been confirmed by Petfood Industry representatives to be “Taste of Pet Food’s Future”. This spring’s interactive workshop demonstrations and activities will focus on palatability, sensory analysis and consumer insights. Petfood Innovation Workshop 2017 will take place the day prior to the commencement of Petfood Forum, on April 3, 2017 at Kansas State University Olathe in Olathe, Kansas. The 25th annual Petfood Forum conference and exhibition will be hosted at the Kansas City Convention Center on April 3-5, 2017 in Kansas City, Missouri, USA.

During this spring’s innovative pet food workshop, attendees will be provided with all components that go into the pet and the pet owner’s acceptability of pet food by demonstrating results of a full sensory analysis. Attendees will learn specific ways to collect and utilize consumer information to determine critical pet food purchase drivers, and how to accentuate them in new and existing products. This unique event will also consist of insights on what elements to taste for in pet food, and sensory analysis activities that will focus on how to arrive at the knowledge needed to leverage the results in pet food validation and claims. Expert pet food manufacturers leading the activities will also share tips on interpreting results to enhance product design, promotion, and evaluation. The sensory analysis, palatability and consumer insight experts leading this spring’s interactive workshop are Kemin Nutrisurance, AFB International, Diana Pet Food, Extru-Tech, Inc. and Dr. Greg Aldrich. Details on specific workshop demonstrations are expected to be released in late January.

“With the pet food industry growing at such a rapid rate, and new products constantly being released, it’s important that manufacturers have a concrete understanding of how to collect and utilize consumer insights, as well as the role of palatability and sensory analysis in pet food products, in order to stay competitive,” said Debbie Phillips Donaldson, Editor-in-Chief of Petfood Industry. “By carefully selecting a group of sensory analysis, palatability and consumer insight experts to lead the workshop activities, we hope to give attendees tools and knowledge that can be instantly applied to their own products and business model to enhance their success.”
