Roundtable discussion:

The microbiome and its importance to pet nutrition and health — The microbiome has been receiving a lot of attention, and rightly so, as researchers discover its many connections to an animal’s entire body and physiology. Discover the latest research on microbiome research in pets and what it might mean for how we feed them. Specific topics and speakers include Feeding trillions of bacteria: Bridging the gap between nutrition, the microbiome and pet well-being — Juan Gomez Basauri, Ph.D., global director for companion animals, food ingredients and human health technologies, Alltech; Keeping the microbiome in mind: Best practices for diet trials — Jessica Jarett, Ph.D., computational biologist, AnimalBiome; and The effect of complex and diverse sialylated oligosaccharides on simulated dog gut microbiome and metabolites — Yemi Adesokan, Ph.D., chief scientific officer, Gnubiotics SA.

Presentation description:

The effect of complex and diverse sialylated oligosaccharides on simulated dog gut microbiome and metabolites — Adesokan demonstrates the properties and effects of GNU100, a novel class of complex and diverse sialylated oligosaccharides, in a simulator of the dog intestinal tract. Scientific reports confirm a favorable effect of milk oligosaccharides on host health, particularly reducing the presence of pathogens, stimulating the immunological response and preventing intestinal diseases. GNU100 formulation may have the potential to beneficially modify the gut microbiota of pets, enhancing energy and metabolic homeostasis.

Experience:

Adesokan is the chief scientific officer at Gnubiotics SA, a Lausanne-based biotech company developing milk oligosaccharide biosimilars for humans and companion animals. Adesokan has been recognized for his innovative and pioneering work with awards such as the 2012 Boston Business Journal 40 Under 40 award and the 2011 MIT Technology Review’s annual list of 35 top global innovators under the age of 35, TR35. Adesokan has a Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of California, Irvine, and completed a post-doctoral fellowship in genetics at Harvard Medical School.
