Presentation description:

Microbial protein: Consumer perceptions, pet acceptance of novel protein — Motta provides an overview of the nutritional aspects of microbial protein, then delves into pet food shoppers’ receptivity to this novel ingredient, as well as pet acceptance, or palatability. The introduction of novel ingredients into the market is always challenging, and it is necessary to understand if the market is ready to buy a product made with a novel ingredient but also if the animals will eat it.

Experience:

Ally Motta earned a master’s degree in animal nutrition and has worked in pet nutrition since 2013. With expertise in pet food formulation, she has been invited to lecture on pet nutrition at several veterinary schools in Brazil, where she also organized the first pet nutrition event for vets (FHA Brazil) advocating for pet wellness. Motta has also worked in veterinary clinics designing homemade diets for pets with special needs and as an independent consultant for pet food companies. Recently, she has been more involved within the British pet food industry, working as a pet nutritionist responsible for new and existing product development in complete and complementary food. At MicroHarvest, she helps with developing their product in terms of using it for pet food.
