Presentation Description:

What to expect from FDA under FSMA compliance: lessons from the human food industry – Though the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) was signed into law in 2011, compliance dates for pet food companies under FSMA animal feed regulations went into effect only in the past year or are coming this year. Meanwhile, human food companies have already been under compliance to FSMA regulations for a few years. Based on the experiences of his firm’s human food clients, Senior explains how the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) views compliance and enforcement of the new preventive control and good manufacturing rules, what to expect during a Foreign Supplier Verification Program inspection and likely enforcement outcomes for pet food companies.

Experience:

Senior is an attorney certified as a preventive controls qualified individual. He most recently spoke on the topic of FSVP compliance before the Foreign Trade Association and LA Customs Brokers and Freight Forwarders Association. Senior regularly advises clients on food labeling and advertising claims and provides legal and regulatory counsel on a wide range of issues, including FSMA/FSVP. He represents firms before FDA, the US Department of Agriculture and US Customs to obtain clearance for imported products, and helps firms bring their products into compliance for smoother importing. He also represents various pet food and animal feed clients before state feed regulators.
