Pet media expert Katy Nelson announced as 2019 keynote

Petfood Forum representatives have announced Katy Nelson, DVM, host and executive producer of “The Pet Show with Dr. Katy” and associate veterinarian at the Belle Haven Animal Medical Centre in Alexandria, Virginia, as the keynote for Petfood Forum 2019. Nelson, who will kick off the event on April 30, will share her insights on the human-pet bond and the role of nutrition and health in developing and nurturing it, and what this means for the pet food market.

Nelson serves as an expert on animal health on Washington, D.C.’s WTOP News radio station as well as on the local ABC affiliate WJLA ABC 7. She has been featured on the Today Show, Fox & Friends, Sirius XM, NPR, CNBC, the Meredith Vieira Show, HuffPost Live and is the expert for the second season of the popular show “Unlikely Animal Friends” on NatGeo Wild. The medical director of Pet Health for Stop Aging Now, she has her own line of all-natural pet health supplements called Charlie’s Choice. Nelson is a frequent contributor to Family Circle Magazine, Good Housekeeping, Cheddar TV, HuffPost Pets, BarkPost and is featured in over 200 pet health videos on PetMD.

Nelson earned her veterinary degree in 2001 from the Louisiana State University’s School of Veterinary Medicine. She is a certified veterinary journalist accredited by the American Society of Veterinary Journalists. Through her consulting business, KJN Pet Marketing, she has served as a valuable source to reporters around the country for the past six years and as a marketing consultant for pet-related companies, from Fortune 500 corporations to pet/pet parent targeted start-ups.

In addition to the keynote presentation, Petfood Forum 2019 will feature:

  • Concurrent technical sessions on pet food nutrition, ingredients, the market, safety and processing;
  • Several general sessions covering omnichannel pet food retailing, the evolution of pet food premiumization, the latest consumer data and pet food litigation trends;
  • Lively panel discussions providing insights on e-commerce and pet food retailing, science vs. marketing in pet food development, the future of pet food and its consumers, and an update on the Food and Drug Administration’s investigation into canine dilated cardiomyopathy and possible links to grain-free pet foods.

Petfood Forum 2019 is scheduled for April 29-May 1 at the Kansas City Convention Center in Kansas City, Missouri. Early Bird registration is open until March 1.
