Novel ingredients in pet food: Challenges and opportunities — Cristina Murcia García, Ph.D., and Elena Fraccaroli, DVM, both technical service managers for Kemin Nutrisurance Europe, present their research analyzing different novel ingredients (insect proteins and oils, novel plant-based marine sources) and the potential to use these ingredients in dry pet food. Fatty acids profile, mineral content and other factors were considered to assess their suitability to be incorporated into pet food diets.

Experience:

Fraccaroli graduated from the University of Padua (Italy) with a focus on veterinary medicine. After working for a several years as vet anesthesiologist in a veterinary clinic, she entered the world of pet food production in the technical team of an Italian manufacturing company. Currently she works for Kemin Nutrisurance Europe as technical service manager, dealing with a wide range of Kemin’s product specifically dedicated to pet food, such as palatants, functional ingredients and preservative options. She provides solutions for the best palatability and safety of finished products, developing customized protocols to test the available choices. Fraccaroli also provides Kemin’s customers with trainings on palatant, food preservation and functional ingredients.
