As is true for all industries, science and technology has also been key to a host of new pet food products over the past several decades. An example in the pet food industry is the advent of fresh, frozen, freeze-dried pet foods. These food forms relied in some measure on the development of food technologies relative to process and preservation. Same too, as it relates to the shift in synthetic to natural preservatives.
More recently evaluations of novel proteins and carbohydrates and how they process or are utilized by the animals provided insight into their place in a properly balanced formula. There are developments underway for methodologies to analyze various proteins for quality, as contaminants, and for process control. Defining procedures and pathogen destruction and ways to provide residual safety have been introduced.
All of these developments, start with science, move to technology, and then implementation. Never in a linear fashion and often from directions and disciplines that were unexpected. Integrating the two is part art, a great deal of exploratory research, and a big pinch of engineering. It’s a tricky business to understand how to take deep scientific knowledge, blend it with application, then get it into a product consumers will appreciate. Repeatedly.
About Petfood R&D Showcase 2019
Learning about new discoveries, how they can be integrated into products, and the necessary application validation and promotion are key to new product successes. These topics will be the highlight of the Petfood R&D Showcase 2019. This interactive workshop features a new and highly-relevant theme, “Leveraging Science into Product Innovation.”
This year’s theme will provide pet food professionals a glimpse into the future and to explore creative new approaches to transfer this to the next generation of products, solutions to existing challenges, and opportunities to remain at the cutting edge in the discipline.
This one-of-a-kind workshop features three days of exclusive networking with leading suppliers, researchers and pet food industry professionals, plus cutting-edge scientific presentations and interactive demonstrations.
Petfood R&D Showcase is scheduled for October 15-17, 2019 in Manhattan, Kansas. Registration is now available.
