“Going with the Grain” announced as theme for first Petfood R&D Showcase

On October 10-12, 2017 the first annual Petfood Research and Development Showcase will take place at Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas. This event will be an exclusive one-time opportunity, featuring three days of networking, cutting edge research, and interactive experiences with top pet food suppliers on the campus of Kansas State University.

The event will commence on October 10 with a welcome networking reception, where attendees can engage with their fellow pet food professionals and industry leaders in attendance. The next day of the program will be packed with dynamic scientific presentations, focusing on key research and insights on the use of whole and specialty grains in pet food, and the emerging science behind their value to processing, nutrition, and health of companion animals. The 2017 Petfood R&D Showcase research presentations will be led by an exclusive lineup of the country’s leading faculty, who won’t be featured together under one roof again.

The second full day of the 2017 Petfood R&D Showcase will feature interactive labs exploring pet food production with an emphasis on incorporation of novel starches and specialty grains in pet food. These activities will be held in K-State’s one-of-a-kind Grain Science complex. Activities and demonstrations will include: milling grains into flour and bran, operating and evaluating grinding, conveying, and mixing dry raw materials, extrusion of various whole grain products into kibbles, coating and flavor addition and evaluation, explore new technology regarding baking and more. Further details on the labs are coming soon!

In addition to learning how to stay ahead of the next trend of using whole and specialty grains in pet food, there will be a number of unique networking opportunities for attendees to share ideas with one another, connect with world-class researchers and suppliers, plus engage with some of the top talent of future pet food professionals. Following the evening reception on October 10th, there will be an optional dine-around event, where attendees can select from a variety of local restaurants, which are each paired with a specific pet food related discussion topic. Each group will be led by a top subject-matter expert, providing an invaluable opportunity for pet food professionals to ask questions specific to their own company’s business model, and receive expert answers. Sign up sheets for the dine-around event will be available onsite at the registration desk.

A tentative agenda is currently available, and details on educational sessions and lab activities are expected to be released this spring. Registration for this first annual event is expected to be open in April 2017.
