The implications of vitamin product forms in pet foods – Shiguang Yu, PhD, global technical manager for DSM Nutritional Products, explains how vitamins, organic compounds essential for pet life, are unstable in pet food processing and storage. Product forms, including vitamin derivatives, coating, adsorption, encapsulation and others, have been developed to make vitamins more stable and easier to handle, but certain vitamin forms may contain ingredients that might compromise claims made on pet food labels. Yu shares new research data and critical information to understand the various forms’ bioavailability, stability, analytical methods, label claims and applications in pet food.

Yu holds a doctorate in nutrition from Wageningen University in the Netherlands and a master of business administration from Baker University in the US. He has over 20 years of experience working at leading global pet food companies in the areas of pet food formulation and product design, new ingredient evaluation, product development and clinical trials. Yu has taught nutrition classes in universities and is an experienced speaker at international professional conferences and trade shows.
