Metabolomic impact of bean intake as a novel pet food ingredient in adult dogs – Jonathan Stockman, DVN, DACVN, post-doctoral clinical veterinary nutritionist at Colorado State University, reveals results of a study on dry beans as an uncommon protein and fiber source with unique benefits. The dietary weight loss study recruited 30 obese adult companion dogs and used metabolomics to provide a non-targeted approach to identify biomarkers for bean intake. This may in turn offer insights regarding the impact of bean intake on changes in metabolism that might have additional implications for general health and disease.

Stockman graduated from veterinary school in Israel, then completed a rotating internship in Israel and two residency programs, zoological companion animal medicine and veterinary clinical nutrition, at the University of California, Davis. He is a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Nutrition and previously worked as a senior research scientist at the Waltham Centre for Pet Nutrition in the UK. In 2016, he joined the Colorado State Veterinary Teaching Hospital as a clinical nutritionist and post-doctoral in nutrition research. Stockman taught in the veterinary school at UC Davis and has presented at several national and international veterinary conferences, including ACZM 2010, AAVN 2012 and CVMA 2016.
